Beer Street

Tap to rate

Named after Hogarth's print of the same name, Beer Street is an amber best bitter brewed with rye and hopped with Goldings and Fuggles. Toffee, dried fruit and dark chocolate sit over a well-balanced bitterness, and the rye leaves a nutty finish. It has been brewed since the company was founded in 2011, with the recipe refined over the years. In 2026 CAMRA crowned it Champion Winter Beer of Britain, after a bronze at the 2025 SIBA South East awards.

◎ Appearance

◌ Aroma

The nose combines earthy and floral notes from the Goldings and Fuggles hops with a pronounced toffee and caramel sweetness from the malt base. Secondary notes of dark dried fruit—raisin and prune—emerge alongside a subtle cocoa undertone. The rye adds a gentle spice and grain character that rounds out the bouquet without dominating.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with a balanced malt sweetness—toffee and dark chocolate—that is immediately tempered by a clean, measured bitterness from the noble hops. The rye contributes a toasted, nutty complexity in the mid-palate that anchors the overall profile. Bitterness remains restrained at 28 IBU, allowing the malt character to breathe while maintaining the crisp definition expected of a best bitter.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium in length, drying gently as the bitterness recedes and leaves behind lingering notes of nuts and lightly toasted grain. The aftertaste is clean and uncluttered, with no harsh edges.
