Yin presents a deep, opaque black color with a rich brown undertone when held to light, characteristic of a well-crafted imperial stout. A dense, creamy tan head forms upon pour and maintains excellent retention, indicating proper carbonation and quality ingredients. The beer displays the classic visual hallmark of the style with minimal clarity.

The nose is dominated by roasted malts with pronounced notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and subtle licorice undertones that develop as the beer warms. There's a sophisticated sweetness lurking beneath the roasted character, with hints of dark fruit complexity adding depth to the aromatic profile. The alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, enhancing rather than overwhelming the bouquet.

The palate delivers a full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel with rich dark chocolate and roasted flavors dominating the entry and mid-palate. Complex layers of coffee, licorice, and subtle dark fruit notes unfold as the beer develops, balanced by a moderate 75 IBU bitterness that prevents cloying sweetness. The warming alcohol at 11.5% ABV provides a smooth, luxurious weight that lingers throughout.
