Calypso

Tap to rate

A fruity session IPA with just 4% alcohol, made as a thirst-quencher for sunny days. Barley malt and barley flakes form the base, hops and Amsterdam tap water do the rest, and the brewery recommends serving it cold at 5–6 °C. Meant to be enjoyed with old friends and new ones alike. It comes from the Amsterdam brewery that has worked in a former bathhouse since 1985.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with bright citrus and tropical fruit notes, likely derived from the choice of noble hops and clean fermentation. ◐ Taste

Entry is light and crisp, with an immediate fruity hop impression that develops into citrus and stone fruit notes across the mid-palate. The barley malt and barley flakes provide a dry, clean foundation that keeps the beer lean and drinkable rather than filling. Bitterness remains moderate and well-integrated at 40 IBU, supporting rather than dominating the flavor profile.

◑ Finish

The finish is crisp and quickly fading, leaving behind a dry, slightly hoppy aftertaste that invites another sip. No lingering sweetness or alcohol warmth detracts from the session-friendly experience.

Serve at 7–10°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

What is a Session IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same fruity, refreshing, light character as Calypso will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
