Egger Keller

Tap to rate

Unfiltered and naturally cloudy, with a strong character and very drinkable: the Keller is the brewery's unfiltered Spezial. The haze carries the strong note rather than clouding it. In 2022 the brewery's Kellerbier won gold at the European Beer Star. Brewed in Egg with decoction mashing and spring water from the Winterstaude, never flash-pasteurised.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Egger Keller

◎ Appearance

Deep golden with pronounced natural cloudiness from suspended yeast and protein matter. The haze is integral to the beer's character rather than a flaw, creating an opaque, inviting appearance. A dense, persistent head builds and clings to the glass with fine lacing throughout the drink.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with soft, grainy Malz notes—hay and light bread crust—laid over a subtle herbal undertone from noble hops. Yeast character emerges as earthy and slightly phenolic, contributing depth without sharpness. Spring water minerality and a faint green-apple ester round out the profile.

◐ Taste

Smooth entry with malt-forward sweetness and a gentle cereal body that builds through the mid-palate. Bitterness arrives measured and clean—25 IBU provides balance rather than dominance—while the decoction-mashed grain lends subtle toasted and slightly doughy notes. Carbonation is restrained, allowing the beer's fullness to sit comfortably on the palate.

◑ Finish

Dry and crisp exit with lingering malt and a light herbal fade. The aftertaste is clean and short, leaving no heaviness despite the beer's substance.
