Flying Dog Brewery
Flying Dog Brewery was founded in 1990 by George Stranahan, inspired by a 'flying dog' carving he encountered during a 1983 expedition to K2 in Pakistan. After years in Colorado, the brewery relocated its production to Frederick, Maryland, acquiring the Frederick Brewing Company facility in 2006 and closing its Denver operations in 2007. Flying Dog became Maryland's largest brewery and earned widespread recognition for its provocative branding, featuring artwork by British illustrator Ralph Steadman. In May 2023 the brewery was acquired by New York's F.X. Matt Brewing Company and production was moved to Utica; the Frederick facility subsequently closed, though Flying Dog's brand continues under F.X. Matt's ownership.
