Founded in Salt Lake City in 2010 by David Cole and Peter Erickson, after a change in Utah law made it possible to brew high-gravity beer in the state. The brewery started with six fermenters and grew to eight times that capacity within a few years; a second site opened in Denver in 2013, carrying the barrel programme and a line of sour beers. Epic is best known for Big Bad Baptist, a barrel-aged imperial stout released each autumn in a rotating set of variants.
