Founded on March 9, 2007 by Jeff Drumm — a military kid who grew up in Germany and England — and his wife Carolyn Ferrell. When they moved from San Diego to Spearfish they found the town had no craft beer and the bartender didn't know what an IPA was. Drumm opened Crow Peak as the first brewery in Spearfish and the first in South Dakota to brew modern craft styles. Rapid growth forced expansions in 2009 and 2010, when a 30-barrel brewhouse and canning line opened regional distribution. Now brewing approximately 8,000 barrels annually — the most distributed South Dakota craft brewery.
