Strahov IPA

Tap to rate

The brewmaster's own recommendation: a heady, flavourful IPA with an intense fruity hop aroma and a balanced malt body. It is top-fermented and brewed with Czech ingredients and American hops, and the hop mix changes from batch to batch. An IPA also won the brewery's first gold medal, back in 2011, a few years after the restart.

◎ Appearance

Golden amber hue with bright clarity and lively carbonation evident in steady streams of fine bubbles. The dense, off-white head forms quickly and clings persistently to the glass, leaving defined lacing with each sip. The beer presents a clean, inviting appearance typical of well-executed top-fermented ales.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with prominent tropical and citrus notes from the American hop blend, layered with stone fruit and floral undertones. Beneath the hop character, subtle malt sweetness provides backbone without overwhelming the aromatic profile. The brewer's rotating hop selection keeps each batch fresh, though the fruity intensity remains consistent.

◐ Taste

Entry is clean and direct, with bright hop bitterness balanced by a solid malt foundation that prevents harshness. The mid-palate develops fruity and slightly resinous character from the American hops, while Czech malt contributes gentle sweetness and depth. Bitterness remains measured at 60 IBU, allowing both the hop aromatics and malt complexity to be equally present.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and enduring, with hop bitterness lingering pleasantly without becoming astringent. Citrus notes fade gradually, leaving a crisp, refreshing aftertaste that invites another sip.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.
