Schützengarten Red IPA

◎ Appearance

Deep amber to copper-red in the glass, showing good clarity with a fine white head that maintains steady Schaumhaftung. The color reflects a restrained crystal and caramel malt bill characteristic of the Red IPA style. Bright carbonation is evident in steady streams.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with resinous pine and citrus peel from assertive American hops, grounded by warm caramel and light bread malt notes. Behind these sits a subtle dark fruit character—plum or raisin—balanced by the drying hop profile. No yeast cloudiness or sulfur; the aromatics are clean and direct.

◐ Taste

Entry is bold and dry, with biting piney bitterness and citrus zest dominating the palate. Mid-palate reveals sweet caramel malt that provides backbone without softness, while 60 IBU creates a substantial grip. A light roasted edge emerges mid-sip, kept crisp and avoiding any heavy or boozy character despite 6.8% ABV.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and medium-length, with lingering pine resin and citrus peel fading into subtle caramel warmth. No harsh alcohol heat; the beer closes clean with a hop-forward aftertaste that invites another sip.

Serve at 8–11°C for the best flavour balance and aroma expression.

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.
