Super Gold

Tap to rate

Bitter and rustic, Super Gold is a 4.8% lager that Newbarns had in mind long before the brewery even opened. It is hopped with plenty of UK Challenger, chosen by rubbing every UK hop the brewers could find, and fermented a little warmer with the brewery's house strain to give it more expression. Oats, wheat and flaked barley go into the grist. Previously sold as Oat Lager.

◐ Taste

The palate opens crisp and clean, with an immediate bitterness that unfolds across the mid-palate from the generous Challenger charge. Soft wheat and oat notes provide a gentle grain foundation, while the warmer fermentation adds a subtle yeasty complexity that prevents the bitterness from becoming austere. The finish remains dry and composed.

What is a Lager?

Euro Pale Lagers are clean, refreshing lagers with 4–5.5% ABV and IBU 10–25. Soft malt sweetness, light hop bitterness and high carbonation make them supremely drinkable.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same bitter, hoppy, wheat character as Super Gold will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
