2 Thumbs Up

Tap to rate

Originally a single batch in the experimental Pretty Good Pale Ale series, kept on under its own name since 2023 because the brewery did not want to consign it to history. A hazy pale ale brewed with oats and wheat, which Modest labels bold, zesty and juicy. Drinkers report grapefruit, citrus zest and a dry stone-fruit note, a light body and a pleasant mouthfeel. The brewery does not publish the hop varieties.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with bright grapefruit and citrus zest, supported by a subtle mineral note that suggests dry stone fruit. Oat and wheat provide a soft, slightly grainy undertone without any harsh or bready character. The undisclosed hop varieties remain tastefully restrained, allowing the fruit and grain to coexist in balance.

◐ Taste

Entry is clean and juicy, with citrus and grapefruit flavors establishing themselves immediately across the palate. The mouthfeel is light yet supple, thanks to the oats and wheat; the moderate 40 IBU bitterness arrives in the mid-palate without dominating, providing structure rather than intensity. A pleasant dry finish cuts through any sweetness, leaving a zesty, mineral-inflected aftertaste.

◑ Finish

The finish is crisp and dry, with lingering citrus and grapefruit notes fading into a subtle mineral dryness. No astringency or cloying residue; the beer departs cleanly.
