Kirschholz-Rauchlager is a bottom-fermented smoked lager that has come back to the brewpub's special taps again and again since 2021. As the name says, its malt is smoked over cherry wood. Drinkers describe a moderate, pleasant smokiness rather than a heavy campfire character, a hint of tart cherry, a bready and grainy backbone and some malty sweetness, finishing dry, elegant and highly drinkable.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with restrained smoke—a woodsy, cherry-tinged character that avoids campfire heaviness. Beneath the smoke sits a grainy, bread-like maltiness with subtle notes of tart cherry emerging on closer inspection. A clean lager fermentation profile rounds out the bouquet without yeast-forward esters.
