Spezial

Tap to rate

In the nose fine malt and grassy hops, though not especially aromatic; on the palate malty and slightly grainy. Hemelinger Spezial dates back to 1878. When the contract with AB InBev was not renewed, the brewing moved in February 2012 to Hofbrauhaus Wolters in Braunschweig, which brews it to the original recipe and had already filled several batches in 2004 and 2005.

About Lager

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a Lager?

Euro Pale Lagers are clean, refreshing lagers with 4–5.5% ABV and IBU 10–25. Soft malt sweetness, light hop bitterness and high carbonation make them supremely drinkable.

Finding a similar Lager

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same malty, grassy, light character as Spezial will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
