Glüh Weizen

Tap to rate

A winter dunkelweizen that exists because the sisters missed an accessible winter beer, as most are very dark and heavy. The yeast brings a typical banana taste, cinnamon and star anise sit alongside it, and the aftertaste is long and spicy. Spiced like mulled wine with cinnamon, cloves, star anise and orange peel, and hopped with Magnum and Saaz.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with bright banana esters from the weizen yeast, immediately followed by warm spice: cinnamon bark, clove, and star anise create a mulled-wine character. Beneath these adjuncts sits a gentle orange zest note, with a soft backdrop of wheat and light Malz sweetness. The Saaz and Magnum hops remain discreet, adding only a whisper of herbal restraint.

◐ Taste

Entry is smooth and vollmundig, with banana and clove taking center stage on the palate. Mid-palate develops warming spice intensity—cinnamon and anise dominate without becoming harsh—while wheat provides a gentle, dry foundation. The bitterness is subtle (15 IBU), allowing spice and fruit to remain primary; a light hop bitterness from noble varieties frames the finish without assertiveness.
