Bellheimer Kellerbier

Tap to rate

Finely spicy, naturally cloudy and full-bodied, the Kellerbier pays homage to Johann Karl Silbernagel. It is brewed to the original recipe with which he founded the Bellheim brewery more than 150 years ago, and it stays naturally untreated: a beer for everyone who likes it cloudy and generous. Brewed in Bellheim in the Palatinate, where the brewery has stood since 1865.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Bellheimer Kellerbier

◎ Appearance

Pale golden with pronounced natural haze from suspended yeast and protein, creating a soft, diffuse appearance true to the Kellerbier tradition. The head is modest but persistent, with fine retention and delicate lacing that clings gently to the glass walls. Carbonation is gentle and restrained, appropriate to the cellar-aged character.

◌ Aroma

The nose combines earthy, herbal notes from noble hops with warm, grainy malt undertones. A subtle spice character emerges—pepper and herbal complexity rather than sharp bite—alongside yeast-derived fruity esters that add gentle depth. The overall impression is clean and inviting, without aggressive hop oils or solvent notes.

◐ Taste

Full-bodied entry with smooth, malty sweetness balanced by the 25 IBU of restrained bittering. Mid-palate reveals that signature spice character—peppery and herbaceous—woven through bready, slightly caramel-touched malts. The finish stays clean without sharpness, the bitterness lingering gently on the back palate rather than asserting dominance.

◑ Finish

Medium-length finish with the bitterness fading to a dry, slightly peppery aftertaste. The malt sweetness recedes gracefully, leaving the palate refreshed and ready for another sip.
