Broumy

Tap to rate

A semi-dark, bottom-fermented lager brewed at 12° Stammwürze, built on Czech, Munich, caramel and Carapils malts plus barley and Žatec hops. Martin Matuška wrote the recipe for the brewery's tenth anniversary celebrations, and since the beer was such a success, the brewers decided to brew it again.

◎ Appearance

Broumy presents a semi-dark amber hue with excellent clarity and a fine, persistent white head that clings to the glass with visible lacing. The carbonation is moderate and well-integrated, creating a stable collar that gradually recedes. The beer holds a warm, burnished tone characteristic of Czech amber lagers built on caramel and Munich malts.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced malty sweetness—caramel and soft Munich malt notes dominate—before Žatec hops introduce a gentle, grassy-herbal dimension. No harsh phenolics or sulfur present; the fermentation is exceptionally clean, allowing the noble-hop character to emerge as a refined backdrop. The overall impression is one of balance rather than intensity.

◐ Taste

Entry is smooth and full-bodied for the ABV, with caramel and soft grain flavors anchoring the mid-palate. Žatec hops provide a restrained, elegant bitterness (25 IBU) that settles into a crisp, slightly dry undertone without astringency. The beer drinks cleanly throughout, with no cloying residue—the malty backbone supports rather than overwhelms the hop profile.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium and gently drying, with caramel notes fading into a subtle herbal aftertaste. A refreshing quality emerges on the back palate, inviting continued drinking without fatigue.
