d’Este 15

Tap to rate

Full taste, a sharp crispness and a velvety bitterness mark this strong, pale fifteen-degree lager. The name d’Este is the one Franz Ferdinand took on after an inheritance in 1875. It is brewed with malt from the brewery’s own floor malthouse and Magnum, Premiant and Žatecký poloraný červeňák hops. After seven days of bottom fermentation it lagers for 90 days.

◐ Taste

A crisp entry gives way to a full, well-structured palate where malty sweetness and a velvety bitterness coexist without sharp edges. The 90-day lagering period has refined any rough tannins, leaving a smooth, integrated bitterness that sits at 35 IBU—substantial but proportionate to the beer's body and malt character.

◑ Finish

A dry, lingering finish with hoppy notes fading gradually into a faintly grainy aftertaste. The bitterness persists without becoming harsh, rewarding leisurely sipping over the course of the glass.
