Butterfly Guard

Tap to rate

Peach, ripe berries and a touch of pine come through a soft body that is full of colour, from Cascade, El Dorado, Enigma and Mosaic. Barley, malt and wheat make up the grist of this 6.5% IPA, kept bright and light despite its strength. It is vegan and part of the Specials. Marble keeps its output small: no plans to brew above 5,000 hl a year, spread over seven fermenters.

AI-generated sensory profile for Butterfly Guard

◎ Appearance

Golden amber hue with bright, translucent clarity and a fine, persistent head that clings to the glass with delicate lacing. The carbonation is visible and lively, creating a light foam collar that slowly recedes. The body appears clean and well-defined despite the wheat component in the grist.

◌ Aroma

Stone fruit and berry character dominates the nose, with prominent peach and ripe berry notes layered over a subtle backdrop of pine resin from the Cascade and El Dorado hops. The Mosaic and Enigma varieties add herbal complexity without overwhelming the softer fruit profile. A gentle maltiness underpins the composition without asserting itself.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with a smooth, delicate entry of stone fruit and berry sweetness that feels supple and approachable. The mid-palate reveals a balanced interplay between the fruit-driven hop character and a light, grain-derived sweetness from the barley and wheat blend. Bitterness arrives measured at 60 IBU—crisp and clean without harshness, finishing drier than the nose suggests.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.
