Kellerbier

Tap to rate

Hohenfelder Kellerbier has a distinct, herb character – traditionally brewed, unfiltered and therefore naturally cloudy. Water, barley malt, yeast and hops go in, and artificial preservation stays out. The 1-litre swing-top bottle is filled by hand; for the brewery's 175th anniversary it also came out in the classic format.

AI-generated sensory profile for Kellerbier

◎ Appearance

A pale golden hue with pronounced natural cloudiness from suspended yeast and protein matter, giving the beer a distinctly opaque character. The head forms quickly and clings persistently to the glass walls, leaving fine lacework as the beer is consumed. Gentle carbonation produces a soft, creamy foam that underscores the beer's traditionally unfiltered nature.

◌ Aroma

The nose presents a forward herbal quality with papery and slightly grassy hop notes that anchor the aromatic profile. Beneath this lies a clean, grainy malt foundation with subtle yeasty undertones—earthy and slightly phenolic from the fermentation. The overall character is restrained and dry, with no artificial adjuncts or preservative notes.

◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and malty, with a light breadiness that develops across the mid-palate. Herbal bitterness builds gradually, offering a moderately bitter finish without harshness; the 25 IBU are well-integrated. The yeast character contributes a subtle earthiness, while the low carbonation allows the flavors to feel soft yet complete, with a dry trajectory.

◑ Finish

The finish is moderately dry with lingering herbal and bitter notes that fade steadily without astringency. A faint yeasty warmth remains on the palate, characteristic of traditionally brewed lagers.
