There's almost a restraint here, like the brewers are respecting the tradition so much they're not trying to reinvent anything. Master Gao Hefeweizen

Master Gao's version is noticeably brighter—you get more of that phenolic spice hitting first, almost like fresh white pepper alongside the banana. The wheat component feels more pronounced, lending a slightly grainier mouthfeel than its Bavarian counterpart. There's a citrus-adjacent note in the middle that wasn't invited by the style guide, but it works—makes the beer feel a bit more awake. The finish is crisper and more mineral, less soft-landing than Friedenfels.
