BEER COMPARISON
THE HOPIQ TAKE
Punk IPA is the establishment craft beer — the one that built the category in the UK and became what everyone compares against. BRLO IPA is what happened when Berlin's most interesting craft brewery decided to make their version, with slightly more ABV, slightly more aggression, and a Germanic directness about what it's trying to do. Punk IPA is more universally pleasing, better marketed, available everywhere. BRLO IPA is more interesting in a quieter way. If you want the reliable choice, Punk. If you want to see what Berlin is doing with the format, BRLO.

TASTING NOTES
BrewDog Punk IPA
Tropical and citrusy with a clean bitter finish. The consistency is part of what makes Punk IPA great — you know what you're getting every time, and what you're getting is very good. The aroma is the thing: grapefruit, mango, a bright, upfront hop character that greets you before the glass reaches your lips. The malt is present but supporting rather than starring. The finish is clean and dry. One of the most reliably good craft IPAs in the world.
BRLO IPA
More aggressive than Punk IPA — higher IBU, higher ABV, less concerned with being immediately approachable. The aroma is citrus and resin, less tropical-sweet, more assertive. The bitterness arrives earlier and lingers longer in the finish. The body is slightly fuller. This is a beer that's trying to tell you something rather than just please you. Very good with food; less of a casual session beer. The Berlin approach: technical, direct, slightly demanding.
