Bastards Imperial Stout

◎ Aussehen

Deep black-brown hue with an opaque body and minimal light transmission, characteristic of the Imperial Stout style. A dense, creamy tan head forms on the pour and settles into persistent lacing that clings to the glass walls. Carbonation is moderate, appropriate for the beer's weight and alcohol content.

◌ Aroma

The nose presents roasted malt character in the foreground, with pronounced notes of dark roasted coffee and bitter cocoa. Secondary aromas of aged oak and whisky-soaked vanilla emerge beneath, underpinned by mild alcohol warmth. The coffee maceration dominates without overshadowing the barrel-aged spice and wood influence.

◐ Geschmack

The palate opens with bitter roasted and coffee flavors, followed by waves of dark chocolate and mild cocoa richness. American oak and whisky notes add complexity and a subtle drying character through the mid-palate. At 11% ABV, alcohol heat is noticeable but well-integrated, balancing 65 IBU of assertive bitterness without harshness. The full body carries all flavors evenly.

◑ Abgang

The finish is long and warming, with roasted bitterness and oak tannins lingering on the palate. Chocolate notes fade gradually, leaving a dry, slightly astringent aftertaste characteristic of barrel aging.

Etwas wärmer als erwartet. 10–13°C lässt die gerösteten Malz-, Schokoladen- und Kaffeenoten vollständig entfalten.
